PANCREATIC CANCER

Pancreatic cancer is malignant tumor, which grow in the tissue of the pancreas, which forms the digestive enzymes they are called pancreatic cancer. Like all malignant tumors they undergo uncontrolled proliferation of tumor cells. They have a tendency to grow into adjacent healthy tissue and destroy it. Individual tumor cells can be carried away by the blood or lymph in distant organs, for example in the lungs, liver or skeletal, secondary tumors (metastases).

PANCREATIC CANCER: FACTS AND FIGURES

Most pancreatic cancer is diagnosed at an older age, the mean age of onset is 69 years in men, in women 76. However, the tumor also occurs in people aged below 50 years.

A pancreatic cancer arises mainly (60 percent) in the so-called head of the pancreas (pancreatic head carcinoma) or in the area where the duct of the gland in the duodenum ends (papillary). Other authors even indicate a prevalence of over 70 percent of pancreatic cancer.

In 30 percent of cases the tumor developed in the field of pancreatic body or tail. In ten percent of cases, the entire gland is affected.

PANCREATIC CANCER: CAUSES AND RISK FACTORS

The actualcauses of pancreatic cancer is unknown. Smoking, lifestyle and genetic predisposition may play a role in the development of pancreatic cancer. The single most important known risk factor for the development of pancreatic cancer is smoking. Various studies suggest that about 30 percent of cases of disease are due to cigarette consumption. The risk of developing pancreatic cancer, is in smokers who smoke a pack of cigarettes a day, about four times greater than non-smokers………….

SYMPTOMS OF PANCREATIC CANCER

Pancreatic cancer leads to latesymptoms. Therefore, in 90 percent of the patients disease is already at an advanced stage, when it is detected. In most cases tumor  already broken through the boundaries of the pancreas and has grown into the surrounding tissue. TREATMENT OF PANCREATIC CANCER

Treatment of pancreatic cancer depends on thetumor stage. For treatment planning, it is important to determine the stage of the cancer accurately.
