Canker sores can be diagnosed just by simply observing its appearance. The doctor can then do test to know the cause of the soreness whether it may be because of an immune system problem, mineral deficiency or hormonal disorder. A blood test or a biopsy of the tongue may also be used.
Treatment and Cure of Canker Sore on Tongue
Generally, canker sores heal on their own. Leave it alone and it will be gone by a week. You may sometimes feel that there is that excruciating pain coming from the soreness. Here are some home remedies for canker sores that can help you get through the discomfort.
• Gargle. You can use mouthwash or a mixture of water and salt. You might feel a little pain at first, but it will go away and can greatly reduce the pain in the long run. There are over the counter mouthwash with anti-bacterial properties that you may also use while some variants might need a prescription.
• Water and hydrogen peroxide. Mix these two elements and get a cotton swab to apply to sores on tongue. You can repeat the process 3 times a day.
• Milk of magnesia. You can also make use of this home remedy. Put this on a cotton swab and apply the solution for up to 3 times a day.
• Medication. When you feel that you need more advice and home remedies do not work for your canker sores, you can head to your doctor or your dentist and get a prescription. There are a lot of products that may be prescribed such as antimicrobial mouth rinse, corticosteroid ointment, prescription mouthwash or antibiotics.
• Vitamins and Minerals. Your doctor can also prescribe vitamins and minerals supplement when your canker sore is a result of certain vitamin and mineral deficiency.
• Diet. You can also consult your nutritionist to create a diet plan that has the nutrition that you need. These may include foods such as parsley, salmon, spinach and nettles. These foods have good amounts of Vitamin C, Vitamin B12, and Iron, among others.
• Watch your dental hygiene. You should always keep your mouth always clean by brushing and flossing after each meal in order to keep bacteria away. Make sure that you use a soft toothbrush to prevent irritation.
You can prevent canker sores in the future by avoiding foods that have caused the attack in the first place. Acidic foods and those that are salty and spicy should be kept off the table. Canker sores may also be related to some allergic reactions to food that may cause swollen tongue, hives or itchy mouth.
Foods that can cause allergies may have caused canker tongues too. In some cases, this condition can also worsen because of stress. To eliminate the pain, you can reduce stress by learning meditation and deep breathing.
